The New & Used Boat Co has today announced that it has acquired the sole rights to produce the prestigious Aqualine range of boats and from October the boats will be made in the UK. The company has previously been the exclusive seller of the boats since 2003 and the boats have hitherto been manufactured in Poland. Chris Hill, Managing Director of The New & Used Boat Co, said “We are delighted to bring production back to the UK and believe that it reflects well on Britain’s still strong skills base”.
The decision to source the boats from the UK has been made as a result of a number of factors including the increased availability of skilled UK labour, fluctuating exchange rates, and to enable more regular production visits for both customers and management.
Chris also said: “The Aqualine brand is very strong and is synonymous with quality and design. Due to the number of new projects being developed by The New & Used Boat Co I would be unable to spend as much time in Poland as I would like. I feel that hands-on management is of paramount importance to maintain such high quality, and to do this effectively we now need the boats to be manufactured in the UK.”
In order to achieve this Chris has chosen Midland Canal Centre Ltd, a company with a long and distinguished history building bespoke and production craft, to build the Aqualine boats under license. Chris explained “we felt that MCC would deliver Aqualine owners the level of quality they expect, due to their skill levels and experience, and a change in factory location will also make it easier for customers to visit their boats during production.”
