Craftsmanship

Depending on the complexities of the design, on average, an Aqualine canal boat can take around 12 weeks to build. During this time over 50 different workers will have applied their individual skills and trades to present a narrowbeam, narrow boat, widebeam, wide beam or Dutch Barge boat of desirable finish.

The Aqualine team is made up of a variety of trades required to construct a boat from scratch and includes qualified welders, carpenters, electricians and fitters. All are highly skilled and have undergone full apprenticeships in their respective craft. This rich resource of skills is one of the main reasons Aqualine chose the area of Gdansk in which to locate their production facility.

As well as fully trained professionals, modern day manufacturing techniques also play a pivotal role in the construction of an Aqualine canal boat. On key areas of the boat, for instance, a specialist welding carriage is used. This computer operated machine is a continually moving, speed-adjustable welding torch, which delivers a constant heat cycle to the weld – something which is impossible to achieve by hand over long lengths. The end result is a weld join that is not only accurate but also incredibly strong and this minimises any distortion in the plate, helping to retain a flat finish.

This perfect blend of time served tradition and state of the art manufacturing means that with an Aqualine canal boat – narrow, wide or dutch barge boat – you really do get the best of both worlds.
