 Aqualine Widebeam makes a splash.
July’s issue of Waterway’s World has a massive 5 page article extolling the virtues of Aqualine’s widebeam craft – the Canterbury.
Writer Mark Langley runs his keen Technical Editor’s eye over every aspect of the boat to almost microscopic level, whilst putting it through its paces on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Not surprisingly the Canterbury came through with flying colours on all areas receiving impressive comment on the quality of steelwork, paint finish, internal specification and handling.
Written with a more technical angle the article gives a refreshingly and slightly different view of the features of an Aqualine widebeam. And of course it’s independent.

“After deciding to retire and buy a boat to live on, we had to make many decisions. We viewed numerous boats, but it was Aqualine who fulfilled our dream. From first viewing to handover, including a trip to Gdansk was without any drama. Two years (and 1316 engine hours) later we have a good looking, reliable narrow boat at an affordable price, and enjoy a trouble free cruising lifestyle.”

The new Manhattan SE
The new Manhattan SE was launched at our VIP Preview event at Blisworth on Saturday 14th November. The layout of this boat is similar to the existing Manhattan design, with a bedroom at the stern and the saloon at the bow, but design changes have resulted in a boat with a totally different ‘feel’.
As well as additional downlighting under cupboards there is also more storage with additional overhead units in the galley and shelving in the bedroom. The galley units are now also painted, with a solid hardwood worksurface, and this looks fantastic. Different ‘coving’ and a stainless gunwhale trim with painted panels also create a different ambience, and the hardwood floor now has a border which looks stunning.
Below you will find a selection of comments made by the customers who attended. If you would like to see the boat for yourself then why not visit our Blisworth office.
“Well thought out design, well presented, nice wood décor and painted panels a good idea. Exterior paint nice, boat feels spacious and the breakfast bar is a good idea.”
Mr Kruszewski
“The whole boat has a really good feel. Very impressed with the galley and bathroom.”
Ron & Elmari Christie
“Design and specification is brilliant. Great lines, very crisp and clean. Low level radiators give great spacious effect, stable doors at the bow, brilliant idea. Fantastic nooks and crannies for storage. All round winner!!”
Donna & Mike Teel
“The cream units work well with the wooden work tops. Liked fin radiators, makes lots more room for furniture. Combination of tongue and groove and painted panels works well.”
Eddie Starck (Existing Manhattan Owner)
Recent VAT ruling
HM Customs and Excise have recently ruled on the zero rating of certain types of vessels when used purely for residential purposes (and as your sole residence). Each case is viewed on an individual basis and the VAT office uses a specific formula to calculate the gross registered tonnage (this is not weight) and this decides, along with your residential circumstances, whether the craft can be zero-rated. For further information on the ruling visit http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/vat/brief3809.htm
Looking at the gross registered tonnage, we would expect that the larger Aqualine Canterbury wide beams (ie those 60ft x 11ft or bigger) and our Dutch Barge, the Voyager, would both be considered as a qualifying ship. However, each case is considered on its individual merits so please speak to one of our offices directly for more details if you are thinking about living on board such a vessel.
Twitter and Facebook
Over the summer Aqualine Marine has set up an account on Facebook. There you will find some photos, details of events, and a chance to start or participate in discussions. If you are on Facebook and love our boats then please become a Fan.
The New & Used Boat Co has also joined twitter, and you can now follow us on www.twitter.com/newandusedboat. Our updates or ‘tweets’ are a great way to hear about new boat listings or price reductions, events at our sales offices or even just what has been happening in the office or factory. We often have previously-owned Aqualine boats which come back to us to be sold on brokerage, so if you are looking for a boat without the lead time, or perhaps want to try a second-hand boat before committing to a brand new purchase, then twitter is a fast way to find out about these boats as they are listed
Mercia Marina Office Opens
In order to make visiting one of our offices easier we opened an additional office at Mercia Marina, Derbyshire, in a joint venture with Harral Brokerage on the 1st March 2009. We have a long history of working with Harral Brokerage for a number of years they have been agents for Aqualine Marine. This new office gives both companies a chance to increase their geographical spread, thus making boat buying and selling easier for more customers by minimising travel times and distances.
This has already proved to be an exceptionally busy brokerage office with lots of boats listed and rapidly sold, which has please vendors no end! Mercia is easy to get to, has a lovely café and of course a friendly sales team to help you, so why not pay them a visit.
